ACTS has decided to no longer pursue the Fruitdale School.
We grew increasingly uncomfortable with the conditions that the bank was negotiating in order to loan us the money, with the continuing deterioration of the unoccupied building, and the rising costs of the renovations. We no longer felt it was in the best interests of our ACTS community to continue in this direction.
Following prayer, and discussion with the ACTS board members and others, we have decided to:
- Offer a modified (i.e. reduced) number of production classes in the 2008-2009 school year. Most of you know what a stressful year this last production season was for us with all the school's possessions in storage and our performance space in a huge state of fluctuation. With that thought in the forefront of our minds we will offer production classes that we feel are manageable in our present "homeless" state. Our fall class schedule will be posted sometime in the next few weeks on our website. Fall brochures and fliers will be sent out at that time as well.
- Form a search committee to find a space for our needs. We are excited about the prospect of seeking out a partnership with a church congregation that may be underusing their facility and would be thrilled with the prospect of having a children's theater company move in, pay rent, energize their church building and exert a positive influence in their neighborhood community. At this time our committee is composed of Mike, Linda and Claire LeBorgne, Chris and Sara Yancy, and Cindy Oury. If you want to join them or have information that would help, please contact the ACTS office at 303-456-6772 or coloradoacts@yahoo.com. We need all and any resources you may be able to offer in this search.
- Ask you, our ACTS community, to help us find a warehouse or some type of open space where we can construct our sets and unpack our possessions from the mobile storage unit they have been housed in since May of 2007. This is the most difficult aspect of staying in business at present, and one that weighs the most heavily on Cindy Troup, since she is the overall tech director and the responsibility for finding the props, constructing and painting sets, and assembling and storing the costumes for each show ultimately falls on her shoulders. She is TIRED folks, and needs an open space (preferably 1500 sq. ft. or larger) with at least 10 ft. ceilings. We can afford to pay nominal rent. As a p.s. to this point we are asking that if you are storing anything for the school such as bins, costumes, props of set pieces call the ACTS office at 303-274-8183.
We at ACTS love what we do. We love putting on shows, we love working with your kids, we love knowing you and your families, we love this tremendous community that has been built up over the years that is solid and healthy. We firmly and humbly state that all this, and we do mean ALL, is because of and for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. May He continue to bless this theater school, our endeavors to keep it running, and lead us to a theater home.

Colorado ACTS (Actors Company and Theatre School)
The school is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization. Colorado ACTS founded and run by three women: Leah Nixon, Marianne Henning and Cindy Troup is starting its 13th year of business here in Denver. We started over 13 years ago at Colorado Christian University as the Ensemble Theatre Company’s Children’s Theatre program.
We are completely staffed by Christians, but do mainstream shows. We have about 200 families involved with classes for children 4-18 years old. We also offer Family and Friends Productions that include our faculty, alumni and adult family members. We offer classes year round and produce between 10-12 full shows a year.
Our productions have ranged from big musicals such as Annie and Fiddler on the Roof to productions from local children’s playwrights like Blarney, Blather and Balderdash (by Patrick Dorn from Pioneer Drama) or The King’s New Clothes (by Edith Weiss from Eldridge Pub.) All productions are paid for from tuition, ticket sales and private donations. Students and Parents are not required to furnish costumes or help with technical aspects of a production (although our families often participate fully).
We are unusual because production classes meet for 2-3 hours only once a week for 3-6 months (depending on the type of class). Normally students audition for parts within a classroom setting, BUT ALL STUDENT IN A CLASS ARE GUARANTEED A PART.
Approximately 60% of our students are home schooled and half of our classes meet during the day especially for them. During the last 13 years Colorado ACTS has produced more than 100 shows and 15 Family and Friends productions. We are proud of the quality of theatre education that our students receive and the quality of the entertainment that our audiences enjoy.
