Moving

Well, the Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, so we shouldn’t complain. And REALLY if the Lord is leading is it truly right to call it wandering?!!

The short story is that Two Roads High School / H.O.P.E. (the school that we currently lease from) has acquired the Maranatha Church property on 72nd and Oak Street.  Because they are moving, we also needed to choose whether to find a new location or move with them (the current rent would be seriously prohibitive for us to stay by ourselves).  After a lot of prayer and searching, the ACTS Board feels that this is where the Lord wants us for now.  We are continuing to look at other options and spaces for the upcoming years.

HOWEVER, for now, we are moving.  We have enjoyed a very good working relation with the Administration, Faculty and Students at Two Roads.  We will have a stage space very similar to what we have had for the last year.  We will share a “multi purpose” room that Two Roads calls their Student Union.  Storage is on the campus (not as convenient as this last year, but sufficient.) The kitchen is Spectacular and we are all excited for more dinner shows!!!

We would like to find a location further central to offer at least one or two classes so that we are not solely located so far north. We will continue to offer teachers to Homeschool Co–ops and for After School programs in small schools.

Moving is a challenge both financially and physically, we hope that you will continue to find ways to support the school and staff. Check out the attached information on our new Grant Writer and an opportunity you have to help us find Grant and Foundation funding.

A Special Event: “Dreams of an Autistic Playwright”

Colorado ACTS is partnering with Jaison Hart to produce this original play.  ”Dreams of An Autistic Playwright” is a delightful, humorous, hopeful and touching play that educates the audience about the challenges of autism. The play was written by Jaison Hart who himself struggles with the issue of autism in his life. This play’s very existence demonstrates the gifts that an individual with autism can bring to his community. Jaison’s work was recognized by the head of the theater department at CU Boulder and the play received a stage reading at CU.  Jaison won a first place award for scriptwriting for this play through The Family Academy of Christian Educators. Now Colorado ACTS is proud to announce the world premier production of this warm hearted and hopeful play. We are looking for 5 or 6 actors and actresses who would like to be part of a rare and precious opportunity. We hope you will join us in this special educational event that will impact people’s lives in positive and transforming ways.

Rehearsal Time: Mondays 7:00pm-9:30 pm and a second night of rehearsal that will be chosen at the first rehearsal.
Rehearsals: September 12th – January 15th
Dress Rehearsals: January 17th, 18th & 19th
Production Dates:  Jan. 20th & 21st at 6:30pm and Jan. 22nd at 2pm with a special Birthday Reception for Jaison to follow the performance.

Bits and Pieces

ACTS is Facebook friendly.  We have a school Facebook page and a separate one for Alumni. If you have a Facebook page you can search for Colorado ACTS Alumni or Colorado ACTS and stay connected with us.

DDRC (Developmentally Disabled Resource Center) does a large show in the fall every year. ACTS always supports them with props and costumes. This year they are performing at Colorado Heights (the old Loretta Heights) Theatre.  It seats 1000 and is one of the most amazing OLD stages in Colorado.  ACTS will be helping with the Tech Side of their show.  We are excited and of course looking for help. Contact Cindy if you are interested. Performs Nov. 18th.

Lots of Community Classes are being offered. Check out the Improv Class, the Church Workshops and Sewing Sessions that are all offered to interested adults.  We also hope to do a number of Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre shows that feature our Adult Community Members.  Contact the School or Erin if you are interested in participating in a show.
